Rishabh Manocha, is a New York City based designer is all set to launch RE:TAILORS with fellow clothier and business partner, George Gladstone.

A novel concept in the landscape of tailoring and retail, Manocha wishes to

redefine both the spheres. “From the cutting rooms to the sales floors, hard working talented people are deeply undervalued, “ exclaims Manocha.

A champion of sustainability, bespoke and ethical labour conditions, Manocha learnt of the burning exploitations in the trade early on while at design school at Parsons  and Central St. Martins.

Gladstone led the custom clothing programmes at Oxxford, Holland & Sherry and Thom Browne. He also saw the potential of the business and its inherent sustainability at a time when the topic was still outside the mainstream fashion dialogue. His debut line, Georgie, in tandem with Manocha will offer the same freedom of choice at a more affordable price point to a wider client base.

“We try to minimize waste as much as we can. The interlinings are cotton, linen or natural blends, the construction methods are timeless, and the production is local. Moreover, our pre-order made-to-order model eliminates overproduction. Our mission is to provide access to a responsible wardrobe that is unique to each individual. It is a co-creation process that goes beyond seasonal collections,” tells Gladstone.

RE:TAILORS is an endeavour to re-envision the spirit of retail. It is where the sales people will be as engaged as the designers, managers and consumers. It is also a place where makers will be valued with the highest regard, both in terms of employment and acknowledgment. It is endeavour to create an equitable system of production, where everybody benefits.

“Thus, we offer a better product, nourish a system of talent growth, and create longer lasting garments that cost a fortune, and ultimately, minimise that mammoth waste our industry has created,” adds Manocha.

As a part of their CRM strategy, Manocha and Gladstone will offer garment re-envisioning services. This way, if a garment is too old or a consumer too bored of it, the piece can have a second avatar. Be it major alterations, parts in upcycled applique or reconstruction of design elements, the idea is to judiciously use resources,” concludes Manocha.

Their collaborative venture and creative vision will be unveiled on April 15, 2021.

The Canvas, a multi brand retail space that focuses on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals will be hosting their launch on Bowery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
